If you don't have a location in mind, we'll chat about the options to figure out what works best for your session. I'm happy to make suggestions and you can take a look through my portfolios to see what aesthetic you like. The Location Inspiration Guide is coming soon.
During the booking steps, you'll use the scheduler to choose a date, fill out an intake questionnaire and leave a deposit. We'll chat by email or phone about location options and any concerns you may have. You'll receive a Welcome Guide with tips for preparing for your photo session.
We’ll meet up at the chosen location and spend and hour or so capturing a variety of posed and candid images to show your pet's personality. I work in a low-key, casual manner that keeps the session comfortable and fun for the subject.
Your online proof gallery will be ready to view approximately two weeks after your session and we’ll schedule to meet in-person at my Sacramento studio (or virtually) for a Gallery and Artwork Review meeting. This gives you the chance to view artwork samples and I can answer any questions to help you decide what works best for your artwork investment.

I want to do a location session but I'm not sure where
A.I'm happy to help figure out what works best. I suggest starting by browsing my portfolios to see if you are drawn to a particular type of location like the beach, manicured park or natural open space. Then consider safety and pet preference factors. Sometimes the comfort of your home is best for an anxious or reactive pet.
I'm worried my pet won't cooperate, is that a problem??
A.No problem! Whether your pet is energetic or shy, we'll work in a way that makes them comfortable and yields beautiful images! In fact, many of my portfolio images that look calm were actually a pause in the midst of zoomies. There really is no one trick that works for every personality or energy level but one of my favorite parts of pet photography is that each session is a unique journey. I love the process of discovery and getting to know your pet's personality.
I have multiple pets. Can they all be in the session?
A.Yes, of course! I do suggest giving thought to your goals and priority. Ideally in a multi-pet session I'll try to get posed and candid photos of them together (if they are comfortable with that) and individually. But it helps to know your goal so I know best how to use our session time.
What is included with the session?
A.The Full session includes your choice of five fully retouched high resolution (printable) digital files or a $160 spending credit towards your artwork order. All printed items come with matching digital files.
Where does the session take place?
A.I am based out of Sacramento and serve the greater Bay Area, Sacramento and Tahoe. Sessions can be at beaches, manicured parks, natural open spaces, urban areas and homes. There is a minimal travel fee from Sacramento to the session location. We are fortunate to have so many amazingly beautiful options and I'm happy to make suggestions based on your preferences. I also offer a location inspiration guide.
How long does a session last?
A.Full sessions typically take an hour for one pet, but are not timed. I'll usually block two hours and we'll go with the flow, getting a variety of shots until we feel the session is complete.
Mini-sessions are limited to twenty minute appointments. Nanos, Pop-Ups and pet Photo Booth events are ten minute sittings.
What if the weather is bad?
A.I'll begin checking the weather forecast about a week before our session and will be in touch if it looks like the weather will affect our plans. I'm flexible about rescheduling session dates.
Does my dog need to be well-trained?
A.No, your dog does not need to be well trained. Generally speaking, my goal is not to get photos of a 'perfect sit', I want to capture your pet's personality.
I encourage bringing high value treats and toys (like a ball). I will always trust your instincts about whether your dog can be trusted off leash. Safety always comes first but dogs often do better than owners expect.
Do you photograph people with their pets??
A.Absolutely! Usually a session focuses on your pet but you are welcome to jump in for a few shots and if your priority goal is to get shots of you together or the full family, that will be how we focus our session time.
How far in advance do I need to book my session?
A.Location session appointments are available Wednesdays and one Saturday a month. There will always be more flexibility during the week and it will depend on the season (Fall books fast). In 2025, sessions in the Bay Area will be limited to two a month.
My pet just received a bad diagnosis and doesn't have much time left. Can you fit us in?
A.Every effort will be made to get your session done as soon as possible! It is a heartbreaking fact that our pets don't live forever and sometimes a photography session is not a priority until time is defined. It is my own loss of a soul-mate cat that brought me to my calling of being pet photographer, so I understand how important these sessions are. If I am unable to fit the session into my calendar I will provide recommendations to other pet photographers.
My dog can't be off leash, is that a problem?
A.I will always trust your instincts about whether your dog can be trusted off leash. Safety always comes first but dogs often do better than owners expect. It's recommended to bring high value treats. It is usually possible to retouch leashes out of the photos but we'll have to be aware of it during the session. In some cases, there will be an additional charge for complex retouching and a quote will be provided.
Can my cat be in the session?
A.Yes, the session fee includes up to two main subjects (from the same household). People can pop in a few photos for no additional fee.
